We raise Cornish cross broilers (meat birds) on our farm from May through September each year. We primarily raise them for our family, but we do offer a small number of them for sale for those who want to know exactly who grows their food and appreciates locally grown poultry.
Our broilers are raised in small batches on fresh grass in mobile pens called “chicken tractors”. Moving them daily to fresh grass allows them to scratch and dig for bugs and seeds while eliminating waste buildup. Fresh air and sunshine means healthier birds and better tasting meat. Since chickens can’t live on grass only, they are supplemented with grain-based non-GMO poultry feed to maintain an adequate rate of growth.
Raising and processing happens 100% on our farm from the day the chicks arrive at one day of age. We sell only whole chickens and the average processed (in the freezer) weight is 4 to 4.5 pounds. The price is $3.50 per pound.
